You had your chance did you use it?

Jacob's family is dwelling with Hivites in Canaan. A man from the Hivites violates Jacob's daughter, Dinah. Shechem then asks Jacob and his sons what he could do to take Dinah as his wife. Simeon and Levi take things into their own hands and destroy all the men of the land. How does Jacob respond? "You have troubled me by making me obnoxious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and since I am few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and kill me. I shall be destroyed, my household and I." Gen 34:30

Let me first say, revenge is not of the Lord. We can't condone the brother's behavior even if it feels justified. Jacob had a chance to seek the Lord and respond as a leader of his family but he didn't. He was only concerned about what others thought about him. This led to his son's poor decision.

We're given a chance each day to seek the Lord. As we honor Jesus with our decisions we influence others as fathers, mothers, leaders, and followers of Jesus. Will you take the opportunity to do the right thing? It might save others from doing the wrong things.
