Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Dinah were born in controversy. The family dynamic was a mess. Gen 30 is like the Jerry Springer show that once came on tv.

The chapter begins, "Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob, "Give me children, or else I die."" (Gen 30:1). These ladies looked for fulfillment through childbearing. They thought my husband will love me, my husband will be attached to me, I've prevailed against my sister(v8), people will see I'm blessed(v13), my husband will dwell with me(v20), and I'm no longer a reproach(v23). The fulfillment didn't last long though.

When we look for fulfillment in anything other than Jesus it eventually runs out. Not just with childbearing. Do you look for fulfillment in your career? Girl/Boyfriend? Spouse? A put together life/house? Others perception of you? The end is the same, things won't keep you fulfilled, only Christ can! We settle for temporary fulfillment when we can be overflowed by our pursuit of Christ and His Kingdom?

Ask the Lord to show you what you're looking for fulfillment in other than Him, repent, & worship.
