In the last chapter we talked about recognizing we're blessed even in the difficult times. Now we come to the father's blessing in Issac's day.

It was important for a father to bless his kids in these days. We see the father's blessings over the next generations weaved through the Old Testament. Yet deception takes place as Rebekah and Jacob hatch a scheme for Jacob to receive the blessing of the firstborn. This causes turmoil in the family so Jacob sets off in fear of his life from Esau. It's messy for sure!

Issac says to Jacob, "Therefore may God give you Of the dew of heaven, Of the fatness of the earth, And plenty of grain and wine. Let peoples serve you, And nations bow down to you..." Gen 27:28-29

His words over his sons were important. Even in life's difficulties those words rang true in each of their lives. Read the chapter to see his blessing over Esau. What we see are his words were powerful.

The same is true for us today. Words are powerful. Do you speak blessings over your kids? Do you speak blessings over others as the Lord leads? Do you speak life or death into the ears of others? How about we use are words to be a blessing and not a cursing.
