Abraham has this back and forth with Ephron about this piece of land to bury Sarah. During the conversation between the people of the land they called Abraham “a mighty prince”. (Side note: The blessing of the Lord was all over Abraham.) But Abraham wanted to purchase the cave even though they wanted to give it to him. Abraham eventually paid 400 shekels of silver and was deeded the property to bury Sarah. Later in Genesis 25 Abraham dies and joins his wife and is buried here as well.

During Sarah’s life we see a few things mentioned: Sarah went along with Abraham’s manipulation about them not being married. Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to have a child. Sarah had bitterness towards Hagar and asked Abraham to make them leave. Sarah laughed when God said she would bear a child. Now, you are probably thinking it’s rough to bring all this up. You are right! Let’s look at the Father’s view of Sarah.

“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” Hebrews 11:11

He said, “by faith” and that Sarah “judged the Lord faithful in His promises”. Wow! He didn’t list a bunch of mistakes made by Sarah. He said she was a person of faith and believed on Him. It’s the same with us today. We are going to make mistakes at times, but if we have put our faith in Christ, it is by that faith that He sees us.

Today, don’t allow your mistakes to determine your future. Our yesterdays are yesterday, and they don’t determine our today and tomorrow.

“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,” Jude 1:24
