Two brothers were arguing one day. One was adopted. In the middle of the argument the one said to the other, “At least I’m not adopted.” The other brother quickly responded, “They chose me, they just got stuck with you.” A silly story but it brings up a good point.

Do you realize as a child of God you’ve been adopted through your faith in Jesus’ atoning sacrifice?

Jesus’ disciple John wrote, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God…” John 1:12

Paul’s pleading with these Jewish people who had turned away legalism to walking in the grace of God. He writes, “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Galatians 4:4-7

Not only has the Father chosen us, but we are heirs of the Kingdom of God. There’s no better gift than being a child of God. When our eyes are on Jesus and our adoption as His child it should propel us to worship, to give thanks, and to freshly surrender.

Do you fully understand the grace that has been lavished upon you? May it drive us to deeper worship. I recently read this quote from “Knowing God” by J.I. Packer. I’ll attach it, hope it’s a blessing to you as it is to me.
