Consequences!
The Lord tells Ezekiel to prophesy against the false prophets of Israel. These prophets were speaking words that sounded good but were not from the Lord. They spoke from their own hearts rather than His, misrepresenting His character and even discouraging those who desired to walk in righteousness.
""Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, 'Hear the word of the LORD!' "" Ezekiel 13:2
There were those among Israel who claimed to speak for the Lord but misrepresented His heart and His ways. Their words brought deception, encouraged wickedness, and discouraged the righteous. The Lord made it clear that there would be consequences for their actions.
Consequences can be positive or negative, depending on our choices. In this case, the consequences of lying, deceiving, and misrepresenting the Lord were severe.
We live in a similar time, both in the world and within the church, where the Lord and His character are often misrepresented. Yet, in the midst of this, we must not grow weary. Instead, we are called to remain steadfast in truth while extending love and grace to those around us.
We should continually examine our own hearts, recognize our shortcomings, and remain in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Our responsibility is not simply to recognize the darkness around us, but to reflect the light of Christ within it.
According to His Word, we are called to be salt and light, faithfully representing Jesus while trusting the Lord to do the work of sifting, refining, and purifying.
So today, in a world that increasingly distances itself from Jesus, may we draw even closer to Him. May our words reflect His truth, our actions demonstrate His love, and our lives faithfully represent His heart and character to a world that desperately needs Him just as much as we do.
