What do you do with it?
Ezekiel is instructed by the Lord to be a sign to those in captivity of what will soon happen to those remaining in Jerusalem. This prophetic warning is eventually fulfilled when Jerusalem falls and King Zedekiah is captured, blinded, and taken into captivity.
Notice how often the Lord speaks to Ezekiel:
"Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
And in the morning the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying," Ezekiel 12:1, 8, 17, 21, 26
But what does Ezekiel do with the words of the Lord? "So I did as I was commanded..." Ezekiel 12:7
The Lord spoke, and Ezekiel obeyed.
As I read this, I find myself wondering about the times the Lord speaks into my own life. What do I do in response? Am I faithfully stewarding what the Lord has revealed to me?
God has spoken through His Word, and He continues to guide His people through the Holy Spirit. Whether through Scripture, prayer, worship, or circumstances that lead us back to His truth, the Lord is faithful to guide us. But hearing His Word and responding to it are two different things.
So the questions we must ask ourselves are:
Do I intentionally make time to listen for the Lord's voice and seek His direction?
When He speaks, am I willing to respond in obedience, even when it's difficult?
Ezekiel didn't simply hear the Word of the Lord. He acted upon it.
May the same be true of us.
Let's be listeners. Let's be doers.
