Ezekiel is an extraordinary book, to say the least! Filled with vivid imagery and visions, the Lord used Ezekiel as a prophetic voice, not only to his generation but to generations beyond. As we read through Ezekiel, we will learn more about him. But as we begin, let's consider where it all started!
"And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above it. Also from the appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as it were, the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around within it; and from the appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it were, the appearance of fire with brightness all around... This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD." Ezekiel 1:26-28
Ezekiel 1-3 records the calling of Ezekiel as a prophet. But before he ever speaks a prophetic word, he encounters a vision of the heavenly throne and the glory of the Lord!
His vision, his calling, his ministry... it all began with the Lord!
In extraordinary fashion, Ezekiel, likely around 30 years old, began a prophetic ministry that would span 20+ years. Yet the words the Lord gave him would continue speaking to generations far beyond his own, even to us today.
But it all began, and still begins, with the Lord!
May we be people who continually seek the Lord, with hearts open to His leading and ears attentive to His voice. And may we pray for those around us to have their eyes opened to His truth.
Would you join me in taking a moment to pray? Pray for those who are still dead in their sins, that the Holy Spirit would open their hearts to the truth of Jesus Christ. Pray for those who need a renewed awareness of His presence and truth. And pray that we would grow in deeper intimacy with the Father, allowing His Spirit to illuminate His Word and reveal more of the beauty and truth of His kingdom.
After all, it all begins with Him!
