Solomon writes about the soul twice in a couple verses. “If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness…” (Ecclesiastes 6:3a) and again, “All the labor of man is for his mouth, And yet the soul is not satisfied.” (Ecclesiastes 6:7).

We can be so cheaply satisfied at times looking for satisfaction in people, places, and practices. Or can we try to drown out the longing of our souls by the noise of the world but there’s a better way. Solomon wrote earlier “God has set eternity in the human heart.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The deep longing in our souls can only be satisfied by the Lord and nothing else. He put that longing there so you could search out for God to fill it.

Father, I pray that we would not look for satisfaction in any other than You. For those in despair that by Your grace they would look to You. You’re worthy to be praised and I know Your heart is to commune with us in the cool of the day. Help us to run to You, to stay near You, and be satisfied with no less than You, in Jesus’ name… Amen!
