Throughout the book of Ecclesiastes Solomon has made the case life is vanity under the sun. Now he comes to a conclusion. He writes, “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7

We were created by God to bring Him glory and will face Him whether we acknowledge Him or not. Our bodies will become dust once more and we will see the Lord face-to-face. It doesn’t matter whether you or I believe it, it’s true! This truth is as real as the breath in our lungs. Breath… yes, just as real!

So from creation to our return to the Lord if we choose to live without Him life is vanity for sure! Solomon experienced this truth in his search for everything under the sun. None of it fulfilled him, none of it completed him. Solomon records, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

There’s a sweetness to life when we recognize the Lord and all His handiwork. The enjoyment of knowing Him and His goodness, even in the difficult moments of life. Are you living in vanity or the abundance of life in Christ?

Father, I pray for those who don’t know You and don’t recognize the vanity of life without You. Your Word is clear You are longsuffering not that anyone should perish but all should come to repentance. I pray for them to recognize you and their need for You. I also pray for Your children. Help us all to trust You more deeply and enjoy the intricacies of life in You. Thank You for revealing Yourself and saving us by Your grace. I worship you afresh. Amen!
