Solomon is sharing some proverb type wisdom in this chapter. Some of it from life experience while the other is heavenly wisdom. Verses 16-17 is solid wisdom rooted in the Lord. Then we read in Ecclesiastes10:19, “A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; But money answers everything.” Does money really answer everything? Sometimes yes. Everything no. But we do know who is the answer to everything. Jesus. At least I hope you know!
Be wise in this world. Jesus actually says, “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16). But don’t allow the wisdom of this world to trump the wisdom of God. We can spend a lifetime (like Solomon) seeking wisdom under the sun or we can spend a lifetime seeking the wisdom of God. He’s always the trump card. His presence. His purposes. His provision.
