Solomon, the author of Ecclesiastes, was once offered anything he wanted from God in a dream (1 Kings 3). He asked for wisdom, and God granted him understanding greater than anyone before or since.
Yet even this wisest of men eventually turned away. In his later years we read, "For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David."
This was the condition of Solomon's heart when he wrote: "I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind." Ecclesiastes 1:14
That's what life feels like when our heart drifts from the One who made it. So the question for us today is simple:
What are you giving your heart to?
We can set our hearts fully on the Lord, or we can let the world and its worries slowly pull us away. Solomon's choices led him to conclude that everything "under the sun" is vanity of vanities.
But God has so much more for you today. The good work He has begun in you, He is eager to continue, in you and through you. So let's fix our minds and hearts on Jesus, and on all He wants to do in us and through us today. Sit with Him for a few and share with those in your sphere of influence all Jesus is doing in and through you. It will make a world of difference in your life and those around you!
