Pass the baton…

Finishing Deuteronomy, we read of Moses speaking blessings over the children of Israel. He speaks of the goodness of God and prophetic rumblings of good and bad Israel will walk in, unfortunately.

But here’s one thing to notice between chapters 33-34. Moses wasn’t bitter towards Israel, towards the Lord, or towards his purpose. His last act as leader before his death is of blessing and passing the baton!

“This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the people of Israel before his death.” Deuteronomy 33:1

“And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.” Deuteronomy 34:9

We have such an opportunity to spend our lives on greater purposes beyond our 72.3 years, or whatever the average life span is these days. And when we choose to be better instead of bitter greater things are done in and through us. Every gift you have has been given by God (James 1:17). It would be wise to spend it on the Lord’s behalf. You can use the time you’ve been allotted, the treasures you’ve been given, and the talent you’ve been gifted on building an eternal kingdom… or an earthly kingdom that will pass away. Moses chose to live in obedience to the Lord and blessing those in his sphere of influence. What will you choose this day? (Joshua 24:15)
