Jesus was wrongfully tried in the dark of night by a Jewish counsel. Jesus then faced Pilate who because of fear gave in to the people’s taunts. He was beaten and put on trial by those who used differing measures.

I will not tell you I understand all the laws Moses spoke to the people. Some we can reasonably understand while others can have us scratching our heads. This chapter speaks of just punishment, care of animals, and the care for widows to name a few. It also speaks about walking in righteousness, “You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a heavy and a light. You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small… For all who do such things, all who behave unrighteously, are an abomination to the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 25:13-14, 16

Whether outside or in their home they were told to be honorable in their dealings. The same is true for us today. As we’re fair minded in our workplace, balanced in our homes, and honor one another the Father is glorified. Cheating, deceiving, and stealing are inspired by the enemy and are life taking whether we realize it or not.

Be honest and forthright in the workplace and in your homes. It was by unfair measures Jesus was put on trial and crucified. Unfair measures always take life while living righteously gives life. If we’re found using unfair measures, it’s as we are standing against the goodness of God like those who put Jesus on trial. It’s that serious. “You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” (Deuteronomy 25:15). Each day we can choose to give life. We give life by living and loving like Jesus. By being fair and just with our measures. Let’s give life!
