“But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” -Jesus

Timothy joins Paul and Silas as they are ministering through the cities. At Philippi they meet Lydia, her heart is opened, and she is baptized. Paul and Silas are also thrown into prison in Philippi and because of their imprisonment a Roman guard and his family come to know Jesus.

Remember, when Peter was in jail he was led out of prison. Now, Paul and Silas stay in prison. Similar situation but they were led by the Holy Spirit in different ways. Also, as they come to Asia we read, “they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.” (Acts 16:6). Again, “After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.” (Acts 16:7). Then Paul has a vision leading them to go to Macedonia. Again, a difference in handling similar situations.

So much going on with twists and turns. To go or not to go. To stay in prison or not to stay. It’s important to note they were being led by the Holy Spirit in each situation. It’s important for us to allow His Spirit to lead us the same today. The same way the Holy Spirit directed and guided the disciples is the same way He directs us as disciples today. That’s why Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit. Be dependent on Holy Spirit to lead you in your circumstances each day. He may lead you to handle things different than some of your closest friends. Let Him lead and watch as He blesses your steps and people see more of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth through your obedience.
