David and the small remnant of Israel are on the run of Absalom. Absalom gets advice from a couple people as how to handle David on the run. Ahithophel and Hushai give opposing advice to Absalom. Absalom takes the advice of Hushai instead of Ahithophel. If you look deeper into the scriptures you will see some connections with Ahithophel that led to his more aggressive perspective, but in the end the Lord directed the steps.

“Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained to thwart the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring calamity on Absalom.” 2 Sam 17:14

David was a smart man, but it’s obvious the Lord was directing the steps.

“The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” Prov 16:9

The Lord is the director. We must remember this when we are on the run in life or seem like our backs are against the wall. Maybe things aren’t going the way we planned, good or bad, but the Lord directs the steps of man. Like it or not :)! May we submit our hearts to the Lord sooner than later.
