“Then Solomon rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.” 2 Chronicles 9:31

Solomon’s reign comes to an end. Mourning took place but then life kept moving forward after his transition from this life to the next. We get a deeper look into this record in 1 Kings 10-11. Somewhere around the time of Solomon meeting with the Queen of Sheba his life took a sharp decline. We read of the magnificent wealth and fame of Solomon. In verses 1-4 we read the details of material blessings. At some point though instead of Solomon having possessions, his possessions ended up having him.

“But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh…” (1 Kings 11:1). “…and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.” (1 Kings 11:4).

It’s important to remember our legacy isn’t in what we compile in this world but what we store up in the world to come. ““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

What legacy are you leaving? If your legacy is in the things of this world that’s also where your heart will be. We all have an opportunity to store up treasures in heaven so what will you do?

Do you know what the Father’s greatest treasures are? People. Jesus Christ was thinking about people just over 2000 years ago on this week as he wept for them. (Luke 19:41-44).

Let’s invest like Jesus. Let’s invest in His Kingdom. Sit, listen to Him, and walk out what He asks you too. That’s a legacy worth living for. That’s the legacy Jesus died for.
