Hezekiah is the 14th generation from David’s reign as king. We’ve read about many happenings good and bad throughout Judah’s history. Hezekiah’s reign is covered in the most detail since Solomon’s reign.

This chapter details the destruction of idols and places of idol worship (v1), offerings provided, and sacrifices made (v2-10), and reforms made with the Levites (11-19). Throughout all this Hezekiah wasn’t perfect in his dealings but he did prosper in much that he did. Why?

“Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah, and he did what was good and right and true before the Lord his God. And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered.” 2 Chronicles 31:20-21

Hezekiah prospered but it wasn’t because he desired to prosper. His desire was for the Lord. What do you desire more, prosperity or the Lord? This world is passing away. Investing our time, talent, and treasures is better spent on the Lord’s kingdom and His presence. When we do this, we prosper in more ways than materially. What are you seeking? What has your attention? Can it be said of you and me, “And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart?
