Doing the right thing the wrong way… but how?

Reading through Chronicles we overview a lot of history. Amaziah is the next king of Judah. We get a good picture of his heart and motivation by his actions.

“And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, yet not with a whole heart.” 2 Chronicles 25:2

-He takes vengeance as his first action.

-He tries to partner with Israel for battle.

-He brutally handles warfare w/o thought.

-He rejects the counsel of the Lord.

-He foolishly and pridefully goes to war.

Amaziah did some things that seemed right, yet his heart wasn’t to honor the Lord but to advance in life by his own means and by his own ways. Do you know what the Lord said to Saul by the prophet Samuel? “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22). Amaziah may have made sacrifices, but his heart was to obey himself, not the Lord.

Could it be we may be doing the same? Maybe, we need to do a checkup from the neck up… and a look within our hearts to see if we are doing the right thing, the wrong way. Ask the Father to search your heart and show you where you might be doing the same. It’s best to lay our agendas down for the sake of following Jesus more closely. Jesus said if best when He told all around Him, He needed to be about His Father’s business. Let’s follow the example of Jesus!
