Left unchecked certain feelings and thoughts can lead you…

Jehoram begins his reign over Judah. He ends up reigning for 8 years before his death. It says “to no one’s sorrow” he departed. He dealt harshly with his 6 brothers. “Now when Jehoram was established over the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself and killed all his brothers with the sword, and also others of the princes of Israel.” 2 Chronicles 21:4

What instigates a person to murder one’s own family? Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment...” Matthew 5:21-22

Anger, resentment, or bitterness left unchecked is a strong influence over our decisions, actions, and reactions. Do you have any hatred in your heart left unchecked? Jesus went as far as saying, “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24).

Father, please help us to not hold offenses towards others. In moments of conflict help us to extend grace and mercy, and to receive grace and mercy. We need Your help to come before You with a pure heart. Thank You for forgiving us for so much. In Jesus name, Amen!
