Your strength could be your weakness. Have you ever considered that?

Earlier in Asa’s life he depended on the Lord even when a million-man Ethiopian army (plus hundreds of thousands of chariots) came against Judah. Now Israel comes against Judah, so he spends a huge sum of money entering a treaty with foreigners. He’s visited by a prophet who says, “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand.” (2 Chronicles 16:7). Even after this decision goes wrong Asa again chooses not to depend on the Lord, “Asa became diseased in his feet, and his malady was severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.” 2 Chronicles 16:12

Somewhere down the line Asa forgot the Lord. He had grown strong, yet he forgot his strength was in the Lord. He depended on strategy and physical means instead of His Savior and spiritual means. He depended on himself, his means, his wisdom which led to his downfall.

When we look into the Word, we should look for practical applications. But let’s remember this Word draws us closer to the Writer, the Father. Let’s consider who or what we’re depending on more as we grow older and more mature. Are we more aware of the presence of the Lord and Him seeing us through life? Or depending on our strength and strategies?
