“Now it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom and had strengthened himself, that he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel along with him.” 2 Chronicles 12:1

Remember, the Lord split the kingdom and left Rehoboam as leader of the two southern tribes for the sake of His promise to David. Yet Rehoboam forsook the law of the Lord and Israel followed right along with him.

There’s an influence a leader has on those around them. A leader’s decisions, directives/policies, words, and actions can either be positive or negative. Leaders can use their position to strengthen, raise up, and see others prosper. In this case Rehoboam didn’t choose to use his position to better the whole but to lead them down a different path.

All in all, we need to pray for leaders! We should be praying for leaders in our workplaces, communities, our church leaders, and those in political and judicial power.

When was the last time you prayed for leaders in these areas? If you are a leader in one of these positions, when is the last time you prayed for the Lord’s grace over your leadership? Let’s take time to pray for leaders. Let’s take time to pray we lead well in our areas of leadership.
