Paul writes to young Timothy with the hope he will see him soon but until Paul instructs him n the discipleship of the church. Reading through the qualifications of the two offices in the church (Elder & Deacon) notice these are character traits not skills to be learned. I encourage you to read them as they are important to each of us. After Paul writes, “but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15

Yes, this instruction is dealing with leadership in the church but it’s also something we should see in our personal witness of Christ. The pursuit of our lives should look different than the pursuit of those who aren’t following Christ. Can you read through these character traits and say these are reflected by your pursuit of Jesus?

Let’s be reminded… it’s not about behavior modification but spiritual transformation. As we spend time with Jesus and in the Bible our character reflects the life of Christ more each day. Jesus’ life exemplified these scriptures, the same with Paul, and I pray the same with each of us today.

Seek Jesus. Seek first His kingdom. Worship. And may our lives reflect the character we see in these scriptures for the glory of His great name.
