There's this beautiful promise in the Bible, "Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it." Ps 37:4-5

But this is also a reminder if you delight yourself in other things this is what you'll get. The people desired a king like the other nations. What did that look like? "...a choice and handsome man... from his shoulders and up he was taller than any of the people." (1 Sam 9:2). Saul looked the part, but notice Saul didnt even know about Samuel. Those seeking the Lord went to Samuel but Saul had no clue who he was, "He said to him, "Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and the man is held in honor; all that he says surely comes true. Now let us go there, perhaps he can tell us about our journey on which we have set out."" 1 Sam 9:6

Israel delighted to be like other nations and the Lord gave them the desires of their heart. There's a beautiful promise in delighting ourselves in the Lord but there's also a warning in delighting ourselves in everything else. The choice is ours: who or what are you delighting yourselves in?
