Notice as we see David we see the heart of a servant. Each time he's appeared at this point he's had a servant mentality. We've saw David tending sheep(16:11), ministering to Saul(16:23), and now serving his brothers, "So David arose early in the morning and left the flock with a keeper and took the supplies and went as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the circle of the camp while the army was going out in battle array shouting the war cry." 1 Sam 17:20

David's opportunity for growth and advancement came as he was simply serving. This devotional started going in a different direction but after reflecting on David's life servanthood takes the spotlight. Jesus said, "It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."" Matt 20:26-28

How are you serving the Lord today? Reflect on how you're serving your spouse, kids, family, spiritual family, the unbeliever, the stranger, or even the prodigal. Our steps forward come thru hearts to serve. It's Jesus' heart so shouldn't it be ours?
