Dear Christian… if you are playing tug a war then let go of the rope!

Inspired by Holy Spirit John is simply laying out truths from His interactions with Jesus in the flesh and in His time quiet time with Jesus, you realize that right? Writers of the letters we read in the Bible have spent time with Jesus. They have heard from the still small voice in their life.

“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.” 1 John 5:2

Years earlier John listening to Jesus wrote what He said, ““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—” (John 14:15-16). Two things: (1) Loving the Father is a choice. Yes, there are feelings involved but simply loving the Father is being obedient to His voice and His Word. (2) We don’t do it on our own. Jesus lovingly gave us Holy Spirit to help us and be with us forever and always (even if our feelings say different).

John goes on to say, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” I John 5:3

We can find ourselves at times being tugged by this or that. Often those things aren’t of the Lord but of the world. When this happens let go of those things and quit playing tug a war when there is no need too. Let go and let God. John ended his letter by writing, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” I John 5:21
