Earlier in 1 Chronicles one of David’s first decisions when becoming king was to usher in the presence of the Lord as he brought the ark of the covenant back to Israel. Now, David is old and full of days and we read about what’s still important to David.

“For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above; because their duty was to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts and in the chambers, in the purifying of all holy things and the work of the service of the house of God, to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening;” I Chronicles 23:27-30

David was a man of war. He fought battles throughout life. He was betrayed. He at times betrayed others and the Lord. He sinned, loved, hurt people, and was hurt by people. Death was all around him. He had enemies most of his life. But that didn’t affect David’s heart to worship and love the Lord. And it was his worship and love of the Lord that allowed his heart to not become brittle.

Life is going to happen. The world is a dark place. Don’t let life and the world slow or stop your worship of the Father. Don’t let your heart become brittle because of the happenings in the world. The condition of our heart is directly tied to the outpouring of our heart. As we worship the Father we love and care more deeply. Even as the world becomes a more dark place.

Remember, the Father says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” Ezekiel 36:26-2
