We learn from history what not to repeat in the future. The Father has supernaturally recorded and sustained His historical record (Bible) so we could learn and grow in His Son by the power of the Holy Spirit.

When we read/study the record in 1 Chronicles 19 we find many points of application but let’s remember to know Jesus and allow Him to live through us is what’s most important.

In summary, David desires to show Hanun kindness because of his father. Hanun takes bad counsel which ends up in bloodshed and war. With any type of war, justified or not, there’s always a loss of life and wealth.

Let’s notice one thing though, “When the people of Ammon saw that they had made themselves repulsive to David, Hanun and the people of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen from Mesopotamia, from Syrian Maacah, and from Zobah.” (I Chronicles 19:6). The choice to fight was from bad counsel and the desire for wealth. Their battle was lost and their reasoning for fighting was selfish and unwise.

We need to ask ourselves why we fight some of the battles we do. It could be with our spouse, friends, or coworkers. It could be situational or out of last resort, but we need to be careful why we engage and how we engage in battles in life. May the battles we face not be motivated in self. “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” (Romans 12:18).

Take a moment to read Romans 12:17-21. Seek and walk out being peacemakers!
