Thankfulness! Are you thankful? When you get the news you want to hear it’s easy to be thankful but what about when you don’t?

David had went to Nathan the prophet to inquire about desires that were in his heart. “Then Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”” (I Chronicles 17:2). Yet within 24 hours he gets a different response. David is told he isn’t able to build God’s house as he requested. God tells David it will be his son who builds His house, not David.

This must be bittersweet. On one hand the desire David has to build His house God isn’t allowing. On the other hand, it will be David’s son who God chooses to build His house. David doesn’t get angry with God. He doesn’t question if God is good. He doesn’t doubt God’s plans. He doesn’t get bitter from the news. What He does do is express His thankfulness and humility before God. What do you do when news hits fast or your expected plans aren’t met?

David worshiped. He gave thanks. David blessed the Lord. “Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far? O Lord, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.” I Chronicles 17:16, 20

Do you worship? Are you thankful? Do you turn to the Lord or somewhere else? Today, you might haven’t gotten the news you wanted, or your expectations weren’t met but it doesn’t change the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord. Look to Him. Worship the King. Give praise to God Almighty.
