Remember, Jesus was called the “Son of David” because He came thru the lineage of King David. Thru the first 9 chapters we’ve read through the genealogies of Israel which date back to Adam so we could see God’s promise of the son of David reigning forever on the throne. Jesus is the fulfillment of that promise and Chronicles helps us to see it.

We read of Saul becoming the first king of Israel in 1 Samuel. From chapter 11 and on we will read about King David and his lineage. Saul only gets 1 chapter in the Chronicles. Why? Because of his unfaithfulness to the Lord. “So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord...” (I Chronicles 10:13). This wasn’t one bad decision that led to Saul’s demise, but a heart of rejection and desire for Saul’s own will. We will read of King David’s mistakes as well but see a heart of repentance and desire to do God’s will.

What would be written about your day or week; what would be the theme of your life? We will read about highs and lows in David’s life, mistakes and sin, seasons of loss and darkness… but in that we will read of one who had a heart after the Lord. David loved the Lord and he loved people and that’s and the Lord called him a man after His own heart. The same can be true for us too. Let’s not be focused on being perfect, but let’s be focused on loving the Lord and people. As we fix our eyes on the author and finisher of our faith, Jesus, He enables us to lay aside the sin which so easily ensnares us. Do you believe that? Ask the Lord to help you focus on Him and to walk in the power of His Spirit to lay aside all the weight that takes our focus away from Him.
