We read about Moses receiving the 10 commandments in Exodus 20. In this chapter Moses reviews them for those who were 20 years old and younger when the Lord originally commanded them. Moses says, “that you may learn them and be careful to observe them” (v1) and again in (v33), “You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you…”

The commandments aren’t to memorize, even though we should or just to study, even though we should… BUT the emphasis is on observing and walking in them. We should be learning well to live well, not just memorizing and studying. This was the old covenant. Do you remember what Jesus commanded the church to do? “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

Read the 10 commandments. As you do, you’ll realize we’ve never kept them perfectly. We’ve missed the mark, we’ve sinned. That’s why Jesus came and lived a perfect life we couldn’t and died a criminal’s death so we shouldn’t. Romans 10:9-10 leads us in confessing our faith in Jesus. He laid down His life in love. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13

Sit in His Word. Listen to His voice. Then let’s observe and walk out what He teaches. Hint: loving God and loving others really sums it all up!
