We can do good things…
As Israel is going thru restoring David as king there are many relational issues from the conflict. With any conflict there will always be residual effects needing to be dealt with. Joab has done some great things for the kingdom however he struggles with being fully obedient to King David.
“Then Joab came into the house to the king and said, “Today you have covered with shame the faces of all your servants, who today have saved your life and the lives of your sons and daughters, the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines, by loving those who hate you, and by hating those who love you. For you have shown today that princes and servants are nothing to you; for I know this day that if Absalom were alive and all of us were dead today, then you would be pleased.” 2 Sam 19:5-6
This is not true. Joab speaks harshly about David’s heart towards his enemies. For Joab, he isn’t able to comprehend the depth of relationships even in the midst of opposition. Even though Joab does good things for the kingdom he struggles with being fully obedient to the king’s heart. This doesn’t produce good fruit.
The same can be said for us. We can do all the right things but miss out on the heart of our King. Sure, we don’t fully comprehend the Lord’s will at times but we should be seeking after his heart in EVERY situation even if it’s difficult. Today, we have a choice to make, our will or the Lord’s will. Let’s be Proverbs 3:5-6 people.
