Pause and calmly think about that! "Selah"
When David fled from Saul into the darkness and dampness of a cave, he is said to have penned Psalm 57. In the first two sections of this psalm, David cries out for God's mercy, declaring that his soul trusts in the Lord. At the end of each section, he writes, "Selah," a call to pause and calmly reflect on these truths.
In the midst of his desperation these words are still in his heart and on his lips: "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations. For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, And Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth." Ps 57:7-11
If David, while on the run for his life and hiding in dark, damp caves, could express such trust and worship, can we not do the same? What's holding you back from worshiping the Lord today? What's preventing you from sharing God's truths with others? In light of David's example, little should stand in our way. So, will you worship and proclaim God's goodness today? Selah
