Are you like Eliphaz?
Eliphaz speaks truth about God's character in Job 5, declaring, "He does great things, unsearchable, marvelous things without number. He gives rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields. He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety" (Job 5:9-11).
Yet, this truth stems from a flawed foundation. Eliphaz wrongly assumes Job's suffering is the result of his own sin. Though his words about God's character are true, they come from a place of accusation, making it hard for Job to receive them.
I can relate to this mistake. At times, I've shared the truth of God's goodness but done so from misguided assumptions. Can you relate? Being Job or Eliphaz in this situation would be challenging, but with the benefit of a bird's-eye view, we can learn to avoid this error.
Let's pray to see others as the Lord does. Our discernment should never lead to accusation or condemnation but to encouragement and strengthening. May our words and actions draw people closer to the Lord. I'm praying for this-will you join me?
