In Job 34:35-37, Elihu continues his speech to Job, saying: "Job speaks without knowledge, His words are without wisdom.' Oh, that Job were tried to the utmost, Because his answers are like those of wicked men! For he adds rebellion to his sin; He claps his hands among us, And multiplies his words against God."
Throughout the dialogue in Job, none of the speakers-Job included-get everything entirely right. Each man shares truths about God but also misrepresents facts at times. Elihu misconstrues Job's words, accusing him of rebellion and sin. Job never claimed to be sinless; he simply stated his suffering was not a direct result of sin. In the coming chapters, the Lord Himself will address these matters.
We all face opportunities to draw near to God in our suffering or to support others in theirs. The Lord may not call us to focus on unraveling the "why" behind suffering. Instead, the key is to let our trials-or those of others-draw us closer to Jesus. How are you handling your current difficulties? How are you ministering to others in their struggles? Let us pray our hearts would be drawn ever closer to the constant presence of the Lord & find comfort in Christ alone (even if we don't know the "why").
