Jesus. The Father. Sing & praise.
As Isaiah continues ministering he gives us a beautiful portrait of the coming Messiah and reminds us of the Father's greatness.
""Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands shall wait for His law."" Isaiah 42:1-4
"Behold My Servant." Isaiah is calling us to behold Jesus.
Notice His character. He will bring justice, yet He will not do so through loudness or self-promotion. He is meek (power under perfect control), and He walks in the fullness of the Spirit with humility.
Isaiah also says that "a bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench." In other words, Jesus is gentle with the weak, compassionate toward the weary, and faithful to nurture our faith. He does not crush those who are struggling; He restores them. Matthew 12:16-21 points directly to Jesus as the fulfillment of these words.
Then Isaiah turns our attention to the One who sent Him: "Thus says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it," Isaiah 42:5
The Father reminds us of His authority. He is the Creator of heaven and earth. Every breath we take is His gift.
When we behold the character of the Son and the greatness of the Father, there is only one fitting response: "Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise from the ends of the earth," Isaiah 42:10
