It affects more than you know...

Assyria, the dominant world power, is pressing hard against King Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem. But this moment is bigger than politics or military strategy. The response of one leader will ripple across an entire nation.

"And so it was, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord. Then he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz. And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord. Then Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, saying:" Isaiah 37:1-2, 14-15

Hezekiah had options. He could strategize, panic, negotiate, or retaliate. Instead, he went to the house of the Lord, sought the word of the Lord, and laid the burden before the Lord in prayer.

That choice wasn't just personal. It was influential. His response shaped the direction of a whole people.

So what about you?

When pressure hits, where do you go first? To people, plans, distractions, or the Lord?

It's easy to treat prayer and God's Word as last resorts instead of first responses. But our default direction reveals what we actually trust.

And don't miss this: your response doesn't stay private. It spills into your home, your relationships, your influence. Someone else will learn how to respond to pressure by watching you.

So when the next big thing comes, even when it's something small, what will you reach for first?

May we become people who run to the Lord before we run anywhere else.

Father, train our hearts to turn to You quickly and consistently. Not only in crisis, but in daily dependence. Grow our trust in You above everything else we lean on. We need You in the big moments and the small ones. In Jesus' name, amen.
