Take no delight, give us this heart!

Isaiah prophesies the downfall of Moab in chapters 15-16. Moab's origin traces back to an incestuous relationship between Lot and his daughters (Genesis 19). Throughout Israel's history, Moab opposed and oppressed God's people. Balak attempted to curse Israel (Numbers 22-25), and King Eglon oppressed them in Judges 3. The history between Israel and Moab was far from peaceful.

Yet in the midst of judgment, we see the heart of God through Isaiah:

"My heart cries out for Moab..." (Isaiah 15:5)

"My heart shall cry out like a harp for Moab..." (Isaiah 16:11)

Even as judgment is declared, Isaiah does not rejoice, he weeps. He reflects the Lord's heart, who does not delight in destruction.

Lamentations 3:32-33: "Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies. For He does not afflict willingly, Nor grieve the children of men."

So the question is: who is this for you today? Have you taken delight in someone else's downfall, spoken or unspoken? Bitterness feels justified, but it rarely reflects the heart of God.

Father, give us a heart like Isaiah, give us Your heart. One that grieves over sin, but desires to see reconciliation.

Pray right now for the person you've hardened your heart toward. Ask God to forgive you for bitterness and to extend His mercy toward them. That is the heart of the Lord. Let it be ours. We must remember: we don't just proclaim truth. we must carry His heart with it.
